The Water Governance Programme is supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Kenya. The agency’s main aim is to reduce poverty in the world through the implementation of Sweden’s Policy for Global Development that aims to aims to ensure that people living in poverty and under oppression have the ability to improve their living conditions.

The Water Governance Support Programme II aims to promote Sustainable Management of Water Resources and Improved WASH services in Kenya and will achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Improved management of water resources, and water and sanitation services provision
  2. Improved coordination of sector interventions
  3. Improved transparency, integrity, accountability and sector decision making
  4. Strong and active institutions that effectively respond to the SDG ambition.

The Kenya Water and Sanitation Civil Society Network has implemented the WGSP in Kenya over the last five years. The second phase of the programme (2019 – 2022) emphasizes on multistakeholder approach to achieve improved water resources and WASH services. WASH Alliance Kenya has been chosen, by KEWASNET, to promote improved WASH Services through multistakeholder coordination to reflect the attainment of SDG 6.

WAK has organized Technical Working Group Meetings in Coast, Western and Mount Kenya Regions and will conduct discussions with Machakos County on how to streamline and strengthen involvement of different sectors in WASH, Water Resource management, peace and conflict resolution and climate change.
